Why Youth Engagement?

FESPA is introducing the Youth Engagement day at the FESPA 2025 in Berlin to actively involve young people to the visual communications industry. At FESPA, we’re aiming to address the industry’s needs for young minds, fresh talent, and new perspectives by introducing them to the world of print and signage.

This year, FESPA has organised three fascinating, thought-provoking sessions to highlight prints multi-faceted applications – from fashion to electronics, FESPA aims to open the world of print to our valued students. Shortly after lunch, students will have the opportunity to take part in a tour conducted by Sonja Angerer, where attendees will be introduced to industry leaders and the latest technology.

From Nature to Innovation: Sustainable Creativity in Design

12:00 - 12:20

Joanne O’Rourke - MA Fine Arts

Design is more than just making something beautiful—it’s about creating with purpose, sustainability, and a deep connection to nature. My work blends handcraft, eco-conscious materials, and digital refinement, proving that sustainability can fuel innovation rather than limit it.

In this presentation, Joanne will share how she integrates raw, naturally sourced materials like seaweed, deadstock cloth, and natural dyes—including indigo—into her creative process. These organic elements bring unexpected, fluid, and textural qualities to her work, creating designs that are both deeply personal and inherently sustainable.”
